Slender Oats

Slender Oats-Avena barbata, is an annual grass called Wild oats. The seeds are edible. This non-native grass is considered a noxious weed and is widespread in California, where it can be found growing  abundantly in disturbed areas, like roadsides. It is believed that this plant originated in Spain, although it is also considered to be from Central Asia. It produces a nice edible seed like Oatmeal and can be used as a cereal, in breads and as a thickener.
