This box has been handed down 3 generations. It is unfinished wood on the inside, and the bottom, and is black lacquer on the top and sides. The top is painted in a floral design, and The rim of the top has a red curlicue design on the front and 2 sides.  This is an antique, so it shows some wear, but it is still a very pretty and useful piece. It comes from Eastern Europe.
