Woolly Blue Curls is in the mint family, and it grows in our chaparral forest. It’s an early bloomer so you can find it from February through August. The flowers range from blue to purple to pink. It is an evergreen shrub, so when it’s not blooming, look for leaves that resemble Rosemary leaves. It grows from 3 to 5 feet tall. It’s not uncommon to see Hummingbirds feasting on the flowers as well as bees gathering pollen. The leaves have a lovely pine scent…rub some, and smell them. This plant is one of many fire followers we have in the area. That means that the seeds germinate from contact with fire. The chemicals in the smoke from burning sage and chaparral plants stimulate germination.
