Home » Yellow Mariposa Lily

The tulip like Yellow Mariposa Lily is endemic to California. It is a bright yellow flower with a brown circle inside. This species can be found on the California coast, in chaparral, grasslands, forests, and on the Channel Islands. We are lucky to have a handful of these lovely flowers just below the remnants of the Western Wing Dike.  Yellow Mariposa Lilies bloom from spring into early summer.  The Native Americans ate the bulbs of this plant. They ate them raw, roasted in ashes, boiled or baked in an earthen oven.
