Yellow Sweet Clover-Melilotus officinalis  is a non-native annual plant originally from Eurasia that grows in a wide variety of conditions, including disturbed areas.  This plan is annual or biennial. It can grow to 2-7” tall. Since it is in the bean family (Fabaceae) it fixes nitrogen into the soil by forming a symbiotic relationship with rhizobium bacteria.  Butterflies, bees and other insects love these plants, and it is a preferred nectar plant for bees.  White Sweet Clover-Melilotus albus, also known as Honey Clover, is nearly identical to Yellow Sweet Clover. Some botanists separate them, and others tend to group them together.
